Class discussion Senate Bill 1070 Reflection

Our class discussion topic was senate bill 1070. I would say everyone had different viewing points and evidence. The main argument that was brought up was that the process of becoming a legal citizen of the United States should be way shorter. With this argument I do agree with that but, I don’t think they should make it completely shorter and easy because just like anywhere else before going to a new country you should show the respect of learning the countries cultures and lifestyles. Also, it was brought up that it shouldn’t be a requirement   to speak English when you migrate to America. I completely disagree with that, if you’re moving to the US and not going to learn English then what’s the point of coming here? It’s not like all of the US knows, or will learn your language when you come to America it should be a requirement to learn English. In our discussion the main point that I brought up is that I think it’s selfish for illegal parents to illegally start a family, or move their family here. Let me tell you why, if my parents told me one day that we all were being deported and we have to go back where we came from and we can never come back, I would absolutely hate it especially if I have made friends, have a boyfriend and just have a lifestyle here in the US. Why not just go to the process of coming here legally and not have to risk putting your children through that or making your whole family commit a crime when it wasn’t their choice to commit. Another argument was that most immigrants come here to get a better life. Ok I agree with that but my question is why wasn’t their life alright where they were living in the first place, and what makes them so sure it’ll be fine anywhere else? These were the main arguments that really caught my attention during our class discussion. My opinion if not obvious, that senate bill 1070 should be passed because illegal immigration is a crime and why should they get away with that when all criminals go to jail or get punished always. Why should illegal immigrants be treated any different then criminals do?
