Islamic Mosue Reflection

In Our class discussion I found out many peoples outlook on the building of a Islamic Mosque near Ground Zero. Many of their opinions I disagreed with but we all have to remember were all different and we all have different opinions. It was brought up in class that as being Americans we have not a privilege but a right to practice whatever freedom we want to practice simply because living here in America gives us the right. Also, it says nowhere in the First amendment about location. Many people in the class argued this and also that this would be A opportunity to unite with the Muslim community and make things better. They also brought up that yes, the location where the proposed mosque will be built is a very bad location but they said the mosque will fix the community and make people better. What interested me was how people think this relates to the bombing of Pearl Harbor and how we retaliated with putting Japanese in interment camps as our payback. In class, not too many people had disagreements with the idea of building a mosque near ground zero. I think for our first discussion it went very well and very mature for young adults I think discussions like this make one-another realize for younger people we think like adults on some things too.
But I agree with MOST things that were said in our discussion but there are still some things that were not brought up. First, if the mosque is really going to fix the community for the better, how? By everyone turning Muslim? Also, if one of our family member one, two, three, maybe more died one nine-eleven do you think they still would be for the building of the mosque? To me we all have our opinions but until we put our self in their shoes, we honestly don’t have one that matters. Yes our country is a freedom of religion but, “you don’t have to be prejudice against Muslims to know that ground zero is a sacred place”. To me the Muslims are being selfish and over-bearing their rights. Our world isn’t a perfect one it’s the craziness that gets people by everyday and one thing after another ads up and a little controversy like this one shouldn’t even be discussed. This is why I think nothing should be built their but maybe a memorial to the victims.
